How To Get Clients For My Agency
Embrace the challenge of getting new clients by doing what you do best.
Getting clients for your agency can be tricky at first, but all it comes down to is knowing the right techniques for building your up your expertise, establishing a reputation, and figuring out the right way to market to the people you want to bring in.
Whether you’re starting your own agency or have been at this for awhile, below you will find some insightful tips for acquiring more clients sooner than later.
1. Start with your city
To put this simply: This is how we got started. We started in San Antonio, Texas and eventually positioned ourselves to become the go-to company for Facebook Ads.
At Nexo, we took the time to become the pros, specializing in Facebook and mastering the platform, where as other agencies like to offer clients a variety of solutions to their marketing problems. Our company became the only agency in the city to focus primarily on Facebook Ads and that, my friend, made us different.
You might be tempted to focus on becoming a one-stop shop, offering a variety of different products and services to your clients. But this kind of model can be a problem, especially in the earliest stages of your business.
When you first start your agency, you should not do everything. Instead, specialize.
2. Become the pro at something.
Early on, developing a name for yourself is key. And the best way to build a reputation is to be known for something. Find one thing to get good at and commit to it. Learn how to do it BETTER than anyone else and then market yourself as the go-to expert for this skill.
For us, that was Facebook Ads. For you, it might be something different. Nonetheless, what you decide to specialize in should be your ‘secret sauce’. Use this skill to stand out and shine above your competition.
3. Find your audience.
In order to sustain yourself, you’re going to need clients. That’s a fact every entrepreneur has to deal with and a challenge a lot of agencies must overcome at the beginning.
The key to this step is in knowing what problems you are trying to solve with the products or services your agency is developing. You have a platform, you’ve mastered it, and your team is ready to execute. But to what avail? What or who can benefit from what you can bring to the table?
The best thing you can do is start with a single sector. For instance, at Nexo we started with small business owners.
We understood the frustration they faced when they ‘boosted’ their Facebook posts only to not get any return-on-investment (ROI). (Likes, comments, and shares do NOT equal sales.) These small business owners became our audience. And because we understood their pain and had the knowledge they needed to create ads that not only bolstered the awareness of their business, we have been able to consistently deliver an ROI that they can be proud of.
If you are an agency like us, providing a service or product that helps them grow is rewarding in and of itself. If you genuinely care about helping your clients and providing them with results, they will grow to trust you and recommend your business to others just like them.
So find a sector you can work best with and focus on building rapport within that industry. Once you have found tremendous success and built a system that consistently brings in results, document your processes. Ultimately, you should use the experience to tackle a new industry of people.
Remember to keep your customers happy.
Your work should be met with praise and not distain. That’s why we encourage you to deliver your BEST product by focusing on what you do BEST. Start there before expanding into other sectors and services.
Your agency won’t grow over night. Take it one step at a time. The best way to get clients is to start small, figure out what you’re good at, and brand yourself around it. Eventually, once you’ve built up your reputation enough, people are going to see you as the go-to expert in your field and want only to work with you.
You’ll be their first choice.
